EPIX is growing stronger

At the 11th MiŚOT Congress in Zakopane, the presentation by Tomasz Brol and Paweł Białas regarding the development of EPIX filled the hall. Everyone was interested in what solutions could be expected in the near future and how the implementation of its youngest branch, the Jaworzno node, into the system was progressing.

Tomasz Brol, who recently became vice-president of the management board for technical affairs, participated in EPIX's presentation. One of his responsibilities is precisely the development of this aspect of MiŚOT SA's operations.

But one by one.

EPIX MiŚOT currently stands on four legs, meaning four nodes. They are located in:
– Warsaw;
in Katowice;
– Poznań;
Jaworzno.

The relevant information is that MiŚOT SA has recently become the operator of EPIX. The company's actions are therefore fully commercial, and as Tomasz Brol assured – The company can take a few more actions and approach them a little differently.

We'll make EPIX great again – he also said during his speech, and this slogan (ironically) ended up on the caps that he and Paweł Białas were wearing.

The presentation showed that both port numbers and traffic are growing at all nodes. There is an opportunity for growth, but it needs to be carried out sensibly and profitably for everyone.

Price ordering

During the presentation, there was a further explanation of the price structuring, which had already been sent to the operators using EPIX.

- For MiŚOTs, prices from 2024 will remain, as the management board has decided. We are straightening out the prices and there will be one price applicable to all MiŚOTs. For the others, prices will be raised. – informed Paweł Białas, Sales Director of MiŚOT Group –  Changes will appear in older services, those from 2008-2009. Some of them will be discontinued or are already gone.

He added that all global will cost 80 groszy.

– Price differences appear depending on the node – Paweł Białas continued to explain. – Jaworzno will be the cheapest because this is entirely our hub.

The situation at the Poznań hub, which is used by the fewest operators, was also discussed. An option to change this location emerged.

- It's possible that Poznań will move from the node level to a POP. This will allow for a reduction in collocation and energy costs. However, no decisions have been made yet. We will discuss this with the MiŚOTs and make a joint decision. – said Tomasz Brol from the MiŚOT Group.

Voices from the audience defended the Poznań hub in response, because although it didn't attract many operators, those who were there praised its use. Their clients have a similar opinion. As can be seen in the lively discussion at the convention lectures, arguments emerge that direct thinking about changes in the entire Group.

Instead of 1G, it's better to plug in 100G.

Among the planned changes, there are also those concerning ports in nodes. In the near future, there will be a move away from 1G to larger ones: 10G and 100G.

We will be decommissioning 1G, as it makes more sense to install 100G in their place. This is primarily more energy-efficient. – said Tomasz Brol.

You can migrate for a hundred and settle each ten. – reminded Paweł Białas.

This was also an answer for those currently using 40G and wondering about their next steps.

We're betting on Jaworzno

The interchange in Jaworzno continues to develop and is currently the most promoted in EPIX.

– I came to EPIX and immediately did my shopping – said Tomasz Brol with a touch of humor, but immediately clarified very seriously: – This year, we will spend $1,200,000 on equipment. Primarily, we are developing Jaworzno because we have truly good colocation conditions and good energy rates there. We will promote Jaworzno and encourage you to migrate. We have preferential transmission conditions that are cheaper than in Warsaw or Katowice.

The final decision on which node the operator uses, as usual, depends on the operator itself and business calculations. Therefore, EPIX on four legs - nodes stands and gives MiŚOTs a choice of which one to use. We also expect the number of users of these nodes to grow.
