Sencito is to help in the\u00a0fight against flood risk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The municipality of Skocz\u00f3w has implemented the Sencito system, which allows for automatic monitoring of water levels in\u00a0local watercourses and weather conditions. The solution, introduced to the\u00a0Polish market by the MdI Project in\u00a0cooperation with a Czech partner, is to improve flood prevention and\u00a0communication with\u00a0residents.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In\u00a0this way, Skocz\u00f3w supplemented the flood protection activities carried out in\u00a0recent years. Many elements of infrastructure in the\u00a0commune have been repaired in the last two years. Now the local government has received a tool that allows it to monitor the hydrological situation on\u00a0an ongoing basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sencito uses LoRa technology and IoT devices. In\u00a0Skocz\u00f3w, the system currently includes 11 sensors \u2013 eight devices monitoring the water level and three meteorological stations. The sensors were located in B\u0142adnica, Pog\u00f3rzanka and\u00a0Bajerek. Meteorological stations, on the other hand, collect data on temperature and rainfall and\u00a0snowfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013 We have implemented a system in\u00a0our municipality that allows us to\u00a0monitor the water level in B\u0142adnica, Pog\u00f3rzanka and Bajerek on an ongoing basis. Thanks to this, we can react faster to the changing situation and\u00a0even better prepare for\u00a0possible flood risks. This is another step towards increasing the safety of our residents \u2013 says Piotr Hanzel, Deputy Mayor of Skocz\u00f3w.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-dane-z-rzek-dostepne-na-biezaco\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Data from\u00a0rivers available on\u00a0an ongoing basis<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The system includes several measurement points in the\u00a0commune. In\u00a0B\u0142adnica, the sensors are located at the bridge on\u00a0Mickiewicza Street, the footbridge in the Upper Bor Park, the Mi\u0119dzy\u015bwie\u0107\u2013Rozdro\u017ce bridge and the railway bridge in\u00a0B\u0142adnice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Pog\u00f3rzanka, the devices were installed at the bridge to Zamek Street in the area of the chapel, at the bridge near the tunnel under the S52 road and at the culvert to Zamek Street in the\u00a0area of DPS-Bucze. Another measuring point operates on\u00a0Bajerka by the bridge along Bielska Street, i.e. provincial road No. 944. Some devices are still in the installation and\u00a0configuration phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013 At the moment, we have 11 such sensors located in the Skocz\u00f3w commune. Eight of\u00a0them operate on the\u00a0rivers: B\u0142adnica, Bajerka and Pog\u00f3rzanka, and\u00a0three are meteorological stations that study temperature and rainfall and\u00a0snowfall \u2013 explains Piotr Hanzel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He adds that the local government had the opportunity to check the accuracy of the system after one of the local weather episodes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\"I personally checked how the system was performing after one of the smaller storms. The measurements are accurate to the centimeter,\" says the deputy mayor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-nie-tylko-dla-sluzb-mieszkancy-maja-dostep-do-danych\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Not just for services. Residents have access to data<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the\u00a0elements of the implementation is the Sencito application, which can be used by residents. It allows you to observe data from\u00a0individual sensors, as well\u00a0as information from meteorological stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the\u00a0application, you can also set your own alarm level for the selected point. If the water level exceeds the value indicated by the user, the resident may receive a notification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013 From the application level, e.g. on\u00a0the Pog\u00f3rzanka River, the resident has the opportunity to set the selected water level value, after which he will receive a notification. We checked it out and it actually works. Such information can come both by push and by e-mail \u2013 points out Piotr\u00a0 Hanzel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The local government can also send messages to\u00a0users of the application. This means that the system can be used not only to\u00a0present data, but also to\u00a0directly inform residents about\u00a0threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The application is already used by over 150 people in the Skocz\u00f3w commune.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013 What our residents like is the ability to independently set the level at which they want to receive information. In turn, we from the administrator level can set messages regarding warning or alarm states and\u00a0send them to the users of the application \u2013 says the Deputy Mayor of Skocz\u00f3w.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-czujniki-mozna-zamontowac-bez-ingerencji-w-brzegi-rzek\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sensors can be mounted without interfering\u00a0with riverbanks<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The form of installation of devices was also important for the local government. The sensors are battery powered, so they do not require an external power supply. In\u00a0Skocz\u00f3w, they were installed on\u00a0existing bridge structures belonging to the\u00a0commune.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013 The big plus is that\u00a0such sensors are powered by batteries. We were able\u00a0to install them on\u00a0our bridge facilities, which we manage, without interfering with the\u00a0banks or areas that are not our property \u2013 explains Piotr Hanzel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In\u00a0the case of traditional, stationary devices, it may be necessary to prepare additional documentation and\u00a0obtain appropriate permits. In\u00a0the case of Sencito, the installation was simpler because the devices could be placed on the\u00a0existing infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The system also consists of two main communication stations that collect data from sensors deployed in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-sencito-jako-model-dla-innych-samorzadow\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sencito as a model for other local governments\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sencito was introduced to the\u00a0Polish market by the MdI Project in\u00a0cooperation with a Czech partner. It was the solution previously functioning in the\u00a0Czech Republic that attracted the interest of the jumping local government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013 We reached a\u00a0company that introduced such a system in the\u00a0Czech Republic. We met here on the\u00a0spot, talked and\u00a0started implementing this system. We have reached an agreement and\u00a0today we have it at our home \u2013 says Piotr Hanzel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the\u00a0time being, the local government treats the implementation as a solution that is primarily to increase the possibilities of monitoring the situation and\u00a0support crisis activities. However, the authorities of Skocz\u00f3w do not want to prejudge whether the commune is the first such place in\u00a0Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\"I don't know what it looked like in\u00a0Poland before. Certainly this system was already in the\u00a0Czech Republic. Perhaps we were actually the first in Silesia \u2013 points out the deputy mayor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After\u00a0the system was launched, other local governments from the region were also expected to show interest in the solution. According to Hanzl, talks on\u00a0this matter were conducted, among others, in\u00a0Cieszyn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Skocz\u00f3w, however, the practical application of the system remains paramount. Automatic water level measurement, weather data, and the ability to quickly transmit messages are intended to create an additional tool for use during crisis situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe're testing for now, but it looks promising. It can be a really good tool that will help us carry out crisis operations and thus increase the safety of our residents \u2013 summarizes Piotr Hanzel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the perspective of the MdI Project, the implementation in\u00a0Skocz\u00f3w shows how IoT technology can be used by the local government without the need to build expensive measurement infrastructure from\u00a0scratch. Battery sensors, LoRa communication, a central platform and an application for residents form one system that can be developed along with the subsequent needs of the municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In\u00a0Skocz\u00f3w, Sencito was launched primarily with flood safety in mind.
